A Charitable Gift Annuity

I recently received a call from a telemarketer who told me that he was a fundraiser and he was requesting a donation for some veteran’s purple heart group. I told him that I had just donated to Veteran Support Center, an organization that helps senior veterans. I was taken back by his demeanor in that he just wouldn’t take no for an answer and he kept trying to play on my sympathy. I later found out that many non-profits use outside high pressure fundraisers and much of my donation is used to pay those fundraisers. I checked with Veteran Support Center and I’m happy to say that they don’t use paid fundraisers. They use volunteers, so more of my donation dollars are used to help senior veterans.
